ABOUT US

Who we are
NLBorrels is an independent global network of Dutch expatriate professionals & entrepreneurs, dedicated to facilitating social interaction, career advancement and exchange of information of interest to the Dutch community living abroad. NLBorrels was founded in 2001 by Sander Raaymakers, a former Dutch expat now living in New York with wife & 2 cats.

What we do
NLBorrels organizes frequent formal and informal "borrels" (networking events), parties and sporting events through its network of local chapters. We are actively represented in these cities: Amsterdam* (NL), Barcelona* (ES), Boston, Chicago, Houston, Istanbul (TR), Los Angeles, Milano (IT), New York City, Philadelphia, Rio de Janeiro (BR), San Francisco/Palo Alto, San Diego, Seattle, St. Louis & Washington DC.

In addition we help promote Dutch clubs, organizations & associations in our extended international 'borrel-partner' network, incl. Atlanta, Bangalore (IN), Cannes (FR), Cincinnati, London (UK), Moskow (RU), St. Petersburg (RU) etc.

Membership
We presently count roughly 5500 members in the USA and another 4500+ in 65 countries world-wide* (Jan '08). Only registered members receive an invitation for the events we organize, but guests are always welcome. Registration and membership are presently free.

The ZIP code distribution of our US members (Dec. 2004) is shown below:

NLBorrels.com: US Member Distribution by ZIP Code (Dec'04)

Sponsorship
The NLBorrels organization is independent, i.e. we are not sponsored by, part of, or affiliated with any local or international Dutch clubs/networks, corporations or governmental agencies/representatives.

On occasion we do accept event sponsorship or partner with the aforementioned when we think it would benefit our members or the Dutch community. If you are interested in sponsoring events please contact us.

Chapters
We are actively looking to start chapters in select new cities (our US wishlist is shown in the map above). If you live in a metropolitan area, know where to find at least 10 Dutch people, and feel up to the task of organizing a (bi)monthly local event then send us an email today!

Web Site
This website currently features event listings, articles, member-only forums, including job/resume postings, for sale/for rent and general discussions, and event photo galleries.

Soon we will add profiles on Dutch companies & individuals and the launch of an online newsletter to keep the community informed of events, organizations and other information concerning "Dutch living abroad".

What's next?
In the short run we will focus on expansion in the USA and several key metropolitan areas in the rest of the world, including but not limited to Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Sydney, and any other location where there's a large concentration of Dutch expatriates and/or immigrants.
