    In June, New York State is the main focus of the celebrations. During the course of this month highlights the upstate celebrations and brings you cultural and historical background stories on Dutch New York State.

    Also in New York City the Dutch spirit is alive. NY400 is proud to present the photography exhibition Dutch Seen: New York Rediscovered, one of the absolute highlights of the year. On June 9th, the Battery Conservancy Gala will honor the Netherlands with the Battery Medal for Cultural Heritage, as 2009 is the year in which the Battery commemorates its heritage as the birthplace of Manhattan. It's on this spot that the New Amsterdam Pavilion will be erected, as a special NY400 gift to New York City.

    The voyage of the Half Moon
    In 1609, Captain Henry Hudson arrived to the shores of what is now New York City on his ship the Half Moon (Halve Maen). Today, a replica of the explorer’s vessel is recreating his voyage up the Hudson River. Captain ‘Chip’ Reynolds explains what it feels like to be the 21st century’s Henry Hudson.

    Discover Dutch New York
    The New Amsterdam Trail is an interactive history walk illuminating the Dutch presence in the landmarks, architecture, monuments, and street names of lower Manhattan. NY400 walked the tour and discovered a couple of fascinating, hidden spots that most New Yorkers probably are not aware of.

    The Dutch will be honored for their contribution to New York City’s biking landscape at the second annual Bicycle For A Day fundraiser. At the event, hosted by actor and founder of Bicycle For A Day, Everyday Matthew Modine, there will be live music by Grammy Award Winning Artist Rahzel, eco-giveaways and a silent auction with the chance to win an orange NY400 Batavus bike!

    River Day
    UNITED STATES, JUNE 05, 2009 – JUNE 13, 2009
    NY State's 400 commemorative event with the Hudson River flotilla! The great flagships; the famous Onrust, Clearwater, and Woody Guthrie, the Mystic Whaler and the Half Moon will re-trace Henry Hudson's historic path to Albany over the course of seven days. All boaters and landlubbers are welcome to join the journey.

    Dutch Seen: New York Rediscovered
    UNITED STATES, JUNE 10, 2009 – SEPTEMBER 13, 2009
    Guest curated by Kathy Ryan, Photo Editor of The New York Times Magazine, this exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York marks the 400th anniversary of the Dutch arrival in Manhattan and features the work of contemporary Dutch photographers, including Rineke Dijkstra and Inez van Lamsweerde.
