Come to Sedgwicks this Saturday to celebrate Jasper's Orange Party

    A Celebration of Life

    Dear Club members and Friends,

We are still hosting our Orange Party at Sedgwicks this Saturday, but our focus will be on the celebration of life. The evening will be dedicated to Jasper Duinstra and we will support him by focusing our efforts on raising funds during the party!

As many of you have read or heard, Jasper Duinstra, one of our youngest members (4 years old), was recently diagnosed a very rare inherited neurological disorder called Late Infantile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis, commonly known as Batten's disease. Batten's disease takes little mercy on its young victims and the horrendous consequences are that Jasper in the years to come will slowly lose all his motor skills, lose speech, become blind and will be totally bedridden and tube fed. Ultimately, Batten's disease is fatal and most victims die between the ages of 8 and 12.

The Duinstra’s have only one option, which is to participate in a privately funded trial with Cornell University in New York. The prior trial managed to stop the disease from further progression or slowed down the progression substantially by repairing the gene defect that causes Batten disease. In a new trial a much more efficient (harmless) virus could be administered which most likely will generate even better results. The costs for the trial are expected to be approximately $2.5 million for 5 children and the Duinstra family needs to raise at least their fair share (but preferably more to help other families as well) in order to participate.

So what it comes down to is that the Duinstra's need your help now - any donation - no matter how large or small is welcome and will help in the fight against this horrible disease. As a community we are stronger and can do more to help each other. We know times are hard - but anything you could spare now would be meaningful. The Duinstra's have partnered with Partnership for Cures which is a foundation that is specialized to intermediate between patients / funding groups and various sorts of medical research so any donation that you give us tax deductible. The link to the website of Jasper is www.JasperAgainstBatten.org. In order to make your tax deductible donation to Jasper's cause, please click here. For those of you who reside in The Netherlands, you can donate to a stichting that will be established shortly to support Jasper's cause.

This Saturday we are hoping that you will join us to celebrate life for Jasper, in orange, with the open bar, great raffle prizes, 2 free tickets to Holland and live music from Tom Haver throughout the evening!! We are counting on your support! Help us combat Batten Disease so that Jasper can live.
